Fitness expert Kayla Itsines has revealed why she didn’t want to share a photo from her recent trip to Sydney, because she didn’t want to share evidence of herself eating cake with her ‘healthy’ followers.

The 30-year-old founder of the Sweat fitness empire said when she was in Sydney recently to film workout content, she was massively craving cake.

But rather than post a photo of her eating a cupcake, she avoided it so she didn’t ‘offend anyone’ who was on a specific healthy eating program or ‘confuse’ people who think you can only eat salad if you want to achieve your fitness goals.

‘If I’m being 100 per cent honest, I really wanted to post this picture of me eating cake from my recent Sydney trip but I held off sharing it with you,’ Kayla posted on Instagram.

‘I didn’t want to offend anyone that is trying really hard to stay on track and hit their goals, and I also didn’t want you to look at this and feel confused.’

But, she has since decided to share the photo because she thinks it’s ‘important’ to explain her food choices, so others can make the best choices for themselves too.

‘The truth is, I was filming workout content the entire time I was in Sydney, so when it came to lunch and dinner, I was craving things like cake and pasta – so that’s what I ate,’ Kayla said.

Kayla said she has no regrets around her food choices, and has taught herself over the years to never feel bad about anything she eats:

‘I know how different foods and portion sizes will affect my body, especially after a full day of working out, and on this day I chose to fuel my body with something I was actually craving at the time,’ she said.

‘Anyone that knows me knows I love food and I eat a lot of it (mostly healthy, but sometimes not).

‘As long as I’m keeping active, being mindful of portion control and sticking to my regular workouts, I know I can eat things like pasta for lunch and cake for dessert and still hit my fitness goals.’

The 30-year-old said if you want to learn about how different foods affect your body, the best thing you can do is ‘listen to it’.

She recommends seeing ‘how you feel’ when you eat certain things – and making a note of how your food choices affect not only your physical progress, but your mental state and general well-being too.

‘There’s no blanket approach or hidden secret when it comes to food,’ she added.

‘If you can find a balance of being active, enjoying what you eat and nourishing your body, you’ll be set up for success. It just has to work for you.’

Thousands of Kayla’s followers who saw her post applauded the star for her bravery, and thanked Kayla for being so honest about how and when she eats.

‘Love this Kayla. Life is all about balance and listening to your body,’ one commenter posted.

‘Thank you for being real,’ another added.

‘Food restriction is not healthy. Moderation and portion control are key. I love to bake treats and eat them.

‘I have no problem maintaining a healthy weight because I work out consistently and don’t over-eat.’
